While there are many different aspects of both expressive and receptive language that affect the learning process, for this project we chose to focus on three areas of expressive language.

- Too little expressive language - changing direction or stopping mid thought without articulating the thought process behind the change so that students lose the thread of the lesson
- Too much expressive language - speaking for lengthy periods of time without allowing students time to process the information
- Sophisticated/academic vocabulary - using vocabulary without providing definitions or context clues for clarity
